High Performance Physiotherapy Experience


I am a highly-experienced Sports and Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist, who has spent the last 20+ years working in Elite Sport, International Rugby, Private Practice, Military Rehabilitation and the NHS.

I have a post-graduate Masters Degree in Advanced Physiotherapy from Kings College London 2009 , having completed my Undergraduate Physiotherapy degree at the University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff 2000.

I have spent over 12+ years working Full Time in Elite Professional Rugby Union at International level, European Challenge Cup, PRO 14, English Premiership and the English Rugby Championship.

My proudest moments working in Rugby to date was Head Physiotherapist in the Opening Game in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan and receiving winner’s medals for winning the English Championship on two occasions in 2012 and in 2014 with London Welsh RFC.

Being a Welsh Regional Head Physio and beating Stade Francais in Paris with Newport Gwent Dragons was a memorable moment on the way to the European Challenge Cup Semi Finals vs Edinburgh in 2015 , and beating Gloucester Away to reach the Semi-finals vs Montpellier in 2016 was special.

 

Olympic and CommomWeath Games Sport Experience

I worked as Senior Physiotherapist at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games 

I worked at the London 2012 Olympic Games providing medical/physiotherapy cover for the Weightlifting competition at the Excel.

I have worked in Football and was physiotherapist to Barry Town AFC for their 2001 Champions League Campaign vs FC Porto.

I have also worked with Canda Rugby,Bedwas Rugby, Blackheath Rugby, Bristol Aztecs American Football, Wales and Newport Tae-Kwon-do TAGB and Cardiff Met/UWIC Rugby.

I have extensive experience working in Private Practice including:

  • Ashton and Jenkins Physiotherapy, Tewkesbury, England
  • Andrew Seary Physiotherapy, Cardiff, Wales.

 

Military Experience

I have worked at the Welsh MOD Rehabilitation centre at St. Athans in Barry providing High end Rehabilitation for Military Personnel.

 

NHS and Public Sector Experience

I initially started his physiotherapy Career in the NHS in 2000, with Gwent Healthcare. I was based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Ystrad Mynach Hospital, Caerphilly Miners Hospital and Gwent Children's Physiotherapy Service.

I moved onto work in the public sector in Whakatane, New Zealand for the Bay of Plenty District Heath Board.

On my return to the UK, I worked again for Gwent Healthcare and then moved on to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust for several years, working in Musculoskeletal Outpatients and Hand Injury Therapy.

Has also recently completed and passed his exams to join the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in 2012.

A member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine.




Interests


My sporting background is in martial arts, having received a 2nd Degree Black belt in Tae Kwon Do, competed in Kickboxing, and more recently Brazilian Jiu Jujitsu. I am a keen Snowboarder and have completed my Advanced PADI Scuba diving qualification. Week to week, I enjoy weights and running outdoors with my dog, and outdoor hikes with the family.
